Mosman Symphony Orchestra is a friendly community orchestra and we are always keen to welcome new players.
People join the orchestra for many reasons. Some of our members are music teachers, some are music students who take the opportunity to learn the standard orchestral repertoire in a friendly, non threatening environment. Many are simply amateur players who love playing orchestral music.
There are no auditions, but to be comfortable with the repertoire you should be at a level equivalent to about 6th grade AMEB standard or higher for Strings; 7th or above for Brass and Winds. Members pay an annual subscription to help with the running costs of the orchestra.
Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 7:30pm till 10:00pm at Mosman Art Gallery, cnr Short St & Myahgah Rd, Mosman.
If you are interested in joining us, or in going onto a ‘subs’ list to fill casual vacancies, please contact our membership secretary by emailing membership@mosmanorchestra.org.au.
Choir
The Mosman Symphony Chorus is a community choir that works in partnership with the orchestra. Our chorus director is Susan Briedis. From a very small scale beginning in 2016 we are thrilled to be growing in numbers and in confidence. Our repertoire consists of mainly classical works.
The choir rehearses at Mosman Art Gallery on Monday nights from 7.30 till 9.30.
New members are very welcome to come and try out with us for a couple of rehearsals after which you may be offered a position in the choir. There are no auditions but you do need to be able to read music. Apart from that all you need is energy, enthusiasm and a love of singing beautiful music.
If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact Rufina: mosmanchorus@gmail.com
